Getting Started

Creating an Account

1. Visit anonymize.today
2. Click "Get Started Free" or "Sign Up"
3. Enter your email and create a password (8+ chars, mixed case, numbers, special chars)
4. Verify your email address
5. You'll receive 300 tokens on the Free plan

Signing In

1. Go to anonymize.today
2. Click "Sign In"
3. Enter your email and password
4. If 2FA is enabled, enter your verification code

Understanding the Interface

On Desktop (≥1024px):

• Sidebar Navigation: Access all features on the left
• Token Display: Your current balance (top right)
• Main Content Area: Where you work with your data
• Settings: Access via the user menu

On Mobile/Tablet (<1024px):

• Hamburger Menu: Tap ☰ to open navigation
• Token Display: Available in the navigation drawer
• Touch-Optimized: All controls are 44px minimum for easy tapping

Core Features

1. PII Analyzer

Purpose: Detect personally identifiable information (PII) in text

How to Use:

1. Navigate to Analyzer from the sidebar
2. Paste or type your text in the input area
3. Select entity types (choose from 256 entity types or use a preset)
4. Choose language from 27 supported languages
5. Adjust confidence threshold (default: 50%)
6. Click "Analyze"

Results:

• Highlighted text with color-coded entities
• Results table showing entity type, location, and confidence
• Selection controls to choose which entities to anonymize

Token Cost: Typically 1-10 tokens depending on text length

2. PII Anonymizer

Purpose: Anonymize detected PII using various operators

Anonymization Operators:

• Replace: Replace with custom text (e.g., "[REDACTED]")
• Redact: Remove completely
• Hash: SHA-256, SHA-512, or MD5 hash (one-way)
• Encrypt: AES encryption (reversible with key) - Basic+ plans
• Mask: Partially mask (e.g., "J*** D**")

Token Cost: Typically 1-5 tokens

3. Deanonymize (Basic+ Plans)

Purpose: Reverse encrypted anonymizations to restore original text

1. Navigate to Deanonymize
2. Paste your encrypted text
3. Select the same encryption key used for anonymization
4. Click "Deanonymize"

4. Batch Processing (Basic+ Plans)

Purpose: Process multiple texts at once

1. Navigate to Batch
2. Add multiple texts
3. Select entity types and language
4. Click "Process Batch"

Plan limits: Basic (100 items), Pro (500 items), Business (5,000 items)

Advanced Features

Custom Entities

Create custom patterns to detect specific information beyond the 256 built-in types.

1. Go to Settings → Custom Entities
2. Click "Create Entity"
3. Enter name and regex pattern(s)
4. Test your pattern with sample text
5. Save and use in the Analyzer

Presets

Save and reuse entity/operator combinations for common workflows.

• Create custom presets with your preferred settings
• Share presets with your team (Basic+ plans)

Encryption Keys

Manage your encryption keys for reversible anonymization.

• Keys must be 16, 24, or 32 characters
• Store keys securely - they're encrypted in our database
• Use the same key for encryption and decryption

Account Management

Settings Overview

Access settings via the user menu (top right) → Settings

• Account: Email, password, profile
• Security: 2FA, sessions, login activity
• Privacy: History settings, data export
• Billing: Subscription, invoices
• Developer: API keys (Basic+ plans)

Two-Factor Authentication

Enable 2FA for additional security:

1. Go to Settings → Security
2. Choose Authenticator App or Email
3. Follow setup instructions
4. Save your backup codes securely
